Sabrina Caluori, Director of Marketing for HBO, was part of our recent PSFK Good Ideas Salon on Advocacy. Part of our conversation revolved around igniting enthusiast communities prior to the launch of a product. Being in the entertainment business, Sabrina talked of “asset packages” that are posted, linked, leaked and distributed to specific communities for a specific show. These packages have high quality images and video in pieces, so that the communities can create their own versions of content on their own blogs, facebook pages etc. True Blood is an often referred to case. While HBO, Campfire and other agencies did a great job of creating a pre-narrative with dozens of sites prior to the launch of True Blood, the real success happened when influential bloggers made their own posts and content. Asset packages should be pre-planned so that all the necessary content can be captured when producing other elements like TV commercials, web video, print ads etc.
